The Gold Supply are just that - pure gold! To take a song like this and add an underlying menace to it through atmospherics adds a whole new dimension to the lyrics. Beautiful and disturbing, the way it should be!

Reading’s The Gold Supply have served up a real gem in the form of their cover of the 80s classic, Don't Stand so Close to Me.
While the 1980 original by The Police had the scandalous and doom-laden undercurrent (and in ‘cough/Nabokov’ one of the most awkward-sounding rhyming couplets ever!) of a forbidden relationship between a teacher and pupil in a world of the brink of destruction, The Gold Supply take the song in a very different direction.
The sparse post-punk/reggae rhythm is augmented by flourishes of what is fast becoming The Gold Supply’s signature Krautrock and post-rock sound, while the vocal sparring of Kevin and Lena give the lyrics a new, unexpected, and somewhat melancholic slant.
We’re sure you will love this track as much as we do. Don’t forget to check up the band’s label debut EP, Open Lines if you haven’t already.
